really really thankful for today's talk on work (part 2).

i learnt about the reasons that Christians should work (from the Bible).
- To be a good testimony (earns their own wages),
- for food on the table (your needs),
- to share with anyone in need (and not steal because you are in need),
- and to give to the work of God (supporting gospel workers).

as you can see, its a very "others-centred" view on working, except for the point on providing for yourself. but it really goes against how the world looks at the reasons for working! many work hard so that they can use it to spend more on themselves, some expect some sort of fulfilment from working, some want to make a mark in life, chase their dreams, fulfil your potential.. but these are all unbiblical motives! work was never meant to fulfil ourselves, as we know it cannot! only God can..

So we were challenged today to question our motives for working.. the reason why we choose certain jobs, why we want to be successful, why we want to work hard..

i realised how sinful my heart is, and so deceitful! i realised that i need to question my motives for doing the things that i do, and checking it against God's word to know if it is His will. i think i have been overlooking certain things in life because i just didnt want to give it all to God, but now i see that i've been feeding off my human desires, and not having a kingdom mindset.. it seems like so much more natural to be building all these treasures on earth, rather than storing all my treasures in heaven, when in actual fact, its sooooo short sighted and illogical!

but im soo thankful that God has convicted me to start anew! (: i'm gonna dig deep into my heart to find all my selfish desires and surrender them to Him with His help of course! its cool because i know that my reward is in heaven, and whatever costs i incur on this earth because of the gospel, Jesus will repay every debt on that final day when i see Him face to face.. my work is not in vain! (:

O Lord You've searched me
You know my ways
Your hand upholds me
I know You love me

You're holy presence
surrounding me
In every season
I know You love me
I know You love me!

At the cross i bow my knee
where Your blood was shed for me
there's no greater love than this!
You have overcome the grave
Your glory fills the highest place
what can separate me now?

You tore the veil
You made a way
when You said that it is done
