"The Spirit of the Lord GOD is upon me, because the LORD has anointed me to bring good news to the afflicted; He has sent me to bind up the brokenhearted, to proclaim liberty to captives and freedom to prisoners; to proclaim the favorable year of the LORD and the day of vengeance of our God; To comfort all who mourn, to grant those who mourn in Zion, giving them a garland instead of ashes, the oil of gladness instead of mourning, the mantle of praise instead of a spirit of fainting. So they will be called oaks of righteousness, the planting of the LORD, that He may be glorified." - Isaiah 61:1-3

so cool how God used my precepts homework and AG to show me that I have been taking sin too lightly. And it all happened within the course of a week!

Blessed are the poor in spirit, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.
Blessed are those who mourn, for they shall be comforted.

I always thought that this mourning was about bereavement or any sad circumstance, but it seems that the overarching idea of the Beatitudes (the first 2 at least) is about God's abhorrence to sin, and our response to it would be mourning and repentance.

The verse in Isaiah is awesome! (: God proclaims freedom to the captives, and proclaims redemption and at the same time judgement. Those that are repentant, are humble, and will be given the "oil of gladness instead of mourning", and the "mantle of praise instead of a spirit of fainting". Our flesh faints, but God's good news causes us to give him praise even in our fainting, rather than just wallowing in self pity.

Help me to remember this week that I am clothed in YOUR righteousness alone, and nothing that I have done could ever earn me a place in your kingdom.
