http://www.desiringgod.org/blog/posts/even-if-you-labor-for-nought

This article really changed my perspective on working for the Lord even when there is no apparent result! (:

Our recompense is measured not according to "our success" but "our labor" and, as with our blessed Master, vouchsafed even in the failure of our ministration.

The Lord measures the faithfulness of our labor, not our success. I look always to the Lord and not to man.

As I took this weapon into my hand in those early days in the ministry, there were times when it shone so brightly I could scarcely contain my joy. I though: What a vision! What a hope! To come to the end of my life after 30 years of pastoral labors and be able to say (gray-headed and full of joy), "My right is with the LORD, and my recompense with my God."

This is really so true and liberating! I've always known that God is the one who gives growth, but I have always thought that failure was, almost all the time, attributed to the failure/ sins of His people. But to know that God remains sovereign over all our failings makes me sooooo relieved!

There were many times that I've been so discouraged to serve because I felt I wasn't good enough, or that someone else could do it better, or that I just couldn't see any visible results. Its easy to think this way when we put our faith in our strengths. But I need to remember that God's power is best manifested in our weaknesses, and in our weaknesses we can give all glory back to Him. (: He also looks at the willing heart of service, and not the results because He is the one who created us with these weaknesses and strengths!

"And the LORD said unto him, Who hath made man's mouth? or who maketh the dumb, or deaf, or the seeing, or the blind? have not I the LORD? - Exodus 4:11

I'm so thankful that whatever we do for the LORD will not be in vain, even if it seems like it on this earth. He sees everything that we sacrifice for Him, and will reward us in the coming age! Press on brothers and sisters (:
